1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Ken and Julie Schefers of Paynesville, Minnesota, for being named a 2016
1.3Farm Family of the Year.
1.4WHEREAS, family farms form the foundation of Minnesota agriculture, propel Minnesota's
1.5economy, and maintain the vitality of Minnesota's rural communities; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Farm Family Award recognizes farm families throughout the state for their
1.7contributions to the agriculture industry and local communities; and
1.8WHEREAS, Ken and Julie Schefers have owned and operated their farm and the Schefers
1.9Brothers Partnership since 1979; and
1.10WHEREAS, the Schefers farm 500 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa. They also
1.11milk 75 registered Holsteins and raise 130 head of young stock; and
1.12WHEREAS, Ken and Julie participate in soil and water quality programs and host farm tours
1.13for FFA judging and dairy education. They also host University of Minnesota Extension meetings
1.14and University of Minnesota Veterinary Medicine student rotations; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16congratulates the Ken and Julie Schefers family on being named a 2016 Farm Family of the Year,
1.17and extends best wishes to them for the future.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Ken and Julie Schefers.
