1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Joan A. Altenbernd for contributions in the field of health care.
1.3WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd has worked as the Executive Director for Migrant Health
1.4Services, Inc. (MHSI), a private nonprofit organization, with distinction for 36 years; and
1.5WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd has provided the administration and leadership in helping
1.6to provide quality health care services to migrant seasonal farmworker families throughout the
1.7states of Minnesota and North Dakota; and
1.8WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd has served on local and state health care boards,
1.9committees, and task forces, with a purpose of advocating for equal access to quality health care
1.10for all, regardless of income, age, sexual orientation, gender, race, or national origin; and
1.11WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd's commitment to provide health care to the underserved
1.12has not only benefited the migrant seasonal farmworker families, but also the local economy
1.13through the federal, state, and foundation money paid out to health care providers administering
1.14these services; and
1.15WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd's dedication to the mission over her 36 years of service
1.16has resulted in the effective, efficient, and successful longevity of MHSI; and
1.17WHEREAS, Joan A. Altenbernd's vision has helped to provide the quality and accessibility
1.18of health care services to all via mobile health units that travel throughout the summer to various
1.19sites across the states of Minnesota and North Dakota, through the implementation of free
1.20screening clinics, and by the recent acquisition of electronic health records; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22recognizes Joan A. Altenbernd for her work and years of service with Migrant Health Services, Inc.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Joan A. Altenbernd.
