relating to higher education; appropriating money for an education debt relief
grant; requiring a report.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin (a) $25,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $25,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of the Office of Higher Education for a grant to the
Loan Repayment Assistance Program of Minnesota to provide education debt relief to
attorneys with full-time employment providing legal advice or representation to low-income
clients or support services for this work.

new text begin (b) The commissioner of the Office of Higher Education shall submit a report by February
1, 2019, to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with
jurisdiction over higher education finance and policy. The report must include information
on the number of attorneys receiving assistance under this section and their county of
residence.
