1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to adoption; modifying postadoption services 1.3 requirements; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 1.4 section 259.83, by adding a subdivision. 1.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 259.83, is 1.7 amended by adding a subdivision to read: 1.8 Subd. 1a. [SOCIAL AND MEDICAL HISTORY.] (a) If a person 1.9 aged 19 years and over who was adopted on or after August 1, 1.10 1994, or the adoptive parent requests the detailed 1.11 nonidentifying social and medical history of the adopted 1.12 person's birth family that was provided at the time of the 1.13 adoption, agencies must provide the information to the adopted 1.14 person or adoptive parent on the form required under section 1.15 259.43. 1.16 (b) If an adopted person aged 19 years and over or the 1.17 adoptive parent requests the agency to contact the adopted 1.18 person's birth parents to request current nonidentifying social 1.19 and medical history of the adopted person's birth family, 1.20 agencies must use the form required under section 259.43 when 1.21 obtaining the information for the adopted person or adoptive 1.22 parent.
