A bill for an act
relating to education finance; authorizing school district levies to pay the costs of
American Indian mascot removal and replacement.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin LEVY AUTHORIZED FOR AMERICAN INDIAN MASCOT REMOVAL
AND REPLACEMENT.

new text begin (a) For taxes payable in 2025 and 2026 only, a school district may levy for costs incurred
after June 30, 2023, for American Indian mascot removal and replacement required under
Minnesota Statutes, section 121A.041. The levy under this section must be recognized in
the district's general fund.

new text begin (b) A district certifying a levy under this section must reduce the sum of its other general
fund levies by an equal amount in the same taxes payable year. The commissioner must not
reduce a district's equalization aid as a result of the levy reduction required under this
paragraph.
