A bill for an act
relating to local sales and use taxes; requiring revenue sharing; proposing coding
for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 297A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin Any city imposing a local sales and use tax under general or special law must
annually distribute a portion of the revenue received from the tax to each contiguous city
and organized township by April 1. The amount paid to each city or township shall be
equal to the total revenue received by the city imposing the tax in the previous calendar
year multiplied by the ratio of (1) the recipient municipality's population to (2) the sum
of the population in the city imposing the tax plus the population of all contiguous cities
and organized townships.

July 15 of the previous calendar year by the most recent federal census, by a special
census conducted under contract with the United States, Bureau of the Census, or by a
population estimate of the state demographer or the metropolitan council, whichever is the
most recent as to the stated date.
