A bill for an act
relating to water safety; requiring life jackets to be worn October through April
on certain watercraft; amending Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 86B.501, by
adding a subdivision.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1.
Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 86B.501, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

From October 1 through April
30, a person must wear a personal flotation device, as prescribed by the commissioner under
subdivision 1, while underway or at anchor on watercraft less than 21 feet in length. This
subdivision does not apply to sailboards.
