A bill for an act
relating to education finance; appropriating money for P-TECH schools; amending
Laws 2021, First Special Session chapter 13, article 2, section 4, subdivision 19.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Laws 2021, First Special Session chapter 13, article 2, section 4, subdivision
19, is amended to read:
(a) For P-TECH support grants
under Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.093, subdivision 5:

(b) The amounts in this subdivision are for grants to a public-private partnership that
includes Independent School District No. 535, Rochester.
(c) Any balance in the first year does not cancel but is available in the second year.

(d) The base for fiscal year 2026 and later is $13,000,000. The commissioner must award
each established P-TECH school a grant in the amount of $1,000,000 to support ongoing
program costs.

The sums indicated in this section are
appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education for the fiscal years
designated.

(b) The commissioner may approve one P-TECH school per economic development
region without an existing P-TECH school. The commissioner must award each approved
P-TECH school a grant in the amount of $500,000 to support start-up costs.

(c) This is a onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2025.
