  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the state flag; creating a legislative 
  1.3             commission to study the design of the state flag. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION ON THE DESIGN OF THE 
  1.6   STATE FLAG.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [ESTABLISHMENT.] The legislative commission 
  1.8   on the design of the state flag consists of five members of the 
  1.9   senate appointed by the subcommittee on committees of the 
  1.10  committee on rules and administration and five members of the 
  1.11  house of representatives appointed by the speaker.  
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [FORM AND STYLE OF STATE FLAG.] The commission 
  1.13  shall study the form, style, and design of the state flag and 
  1.14  suggest any desired changes while preserving its basic 
  1.15  symbolism.  The commission may solicit and secure the voluntary 
  1.16  service and aid of persons who have either technical or artistic 
  1.17  skill in flag construction and design. 
  1.18     Subd. 3.  [REPORT; EXPIRATION.] The commission shall make 
  1.19  its report and recommendations to the legislature by January 15, 
  1.20  2001.  The commission expires on January 31, 2001.
