  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for aid for special 
  1.3             education costs of students who open enroll; 
  1.4             appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 125A.79 by adding a subdivision; Laws 1999, 
  1.6             chapter 241, article 2, section 60, subdivision 14. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 125A.79, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 9.  [NONRESIDENT DISTRICT TUITION; OPEN ENROLLMENT.] 
  1.11  For children who are provided services under section 125A.11, 
  1.12  subdivision 1, the state shall pay aid to the resident district 
  1.13  equal to the amount paid to the serving district by the resident 
  1.14  district for students who have open enrolled in the serving 
  1.15  district under section 124D.03. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  Laws 1999, chapter 241, article 2, section 60, 
  1.17  subdivision 14, is amended to read: 
  1.18     Subd. 14.  [SPECIAL EDUCATION EXCESS COST AID.] For excess 
  1.19  cost aid: 
  1.20       $60,498,000    .....     2000 
  1.21       $79,405,000 $.......    .....     2001 
  1.22     The 2000 appropriation includes $4,693,000 for 1999 and 
  1.23  $55,805,000 for 2000.  
  1.24     The 2001 appropriation includes $6,200,000 for 2000 and 
  1.25  $73,205,000 $....... for 2001.
