  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to unemployment insurance; extending benefit 
  1.3             eligibility for certain business owners and their 
  1.4             relatives; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.5             268.085, subdivision 9. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 268.085, 
  1.8   subdivision 9, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 9.  [BUSINESS OWNERS.] Wage credits from an employer 
  1.10  may not be used for unemployment benefit purposes by any 
  1.11  applicant who:  
  1.12     (1) individually, jointly, or in combination with the 
  1.13  applicant's spouse, parent, or child owns or controls directly 
  1.14  or indirectly 25 percent or more interest in the employer, or is 
  1.15  the spouse, parent, or minor child of any individual who owns or 
  1.16  controls directly or indirectly 25 percent or more interest in 
  1.17  the employer; and 
  1.18     (2) is not permanently separated from employment or is not 
  1.19  separated from employment due to the seasonal nature of the 
  1.20  employment. 
  1.21     This subdivision is effective when the applicant has been 
  1.22  paid four times the applicant's weekly unemployment benefit 
  1.23  amount in the current benefit year.
