A bill for an act
relating to elections; providing for the certification of election judges by
municipalities; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 204B.19, subdivision
4.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 204B.19, subdivision 4, is amended to read:


Subd. 4.

Additional qualifications permitted; examinationnew text begin ; certificationnew text end .

The
appointing authority may establish additional qualifications which are not inconsistent
with the provisions of this section and which relate to the ability of an individual to
perform the duties of an election judge. The appointing authority may examine any
individual who seeks appointment as an election judge to determine whether the individual
meets any qualification established under this section.new text begin For election judges appointed for
an election, a municipal clerk must, no later than three weeks before the election:

new text begin (a) enter into the statewide voter registration system election judge module the
following information for each election judge appointed by the municipality:

new text begin (1) name;
new text end

new text begin (2) address;
new text end

new text begin (3) other contact information including telephone number and e-mail address
supplied by the election judge;

new text begin (4) political party affiliation;
new text end

new text begin (5) description of election judge training received; and
new text end

new text begin (b) electronically certify to the secretary of state, under penalty of perjury, through
the election reporting system in the statewide voter registration system to which the
municipal clerk has access, that election judges in that municipality for that election have
been appointed pursuant to the provisions of Minnesota Statutes, section 204B.19, and
have received the training required by law.
