  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; creating a grant program 
  1.3             to reimburse counties for costs associated with sexual 
  1.4             psychopathic personalities and sexually dangerous 
  1.5             persons' civil commitments; appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1. [GRANT PROGRAM FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF COSTS 
  1.8   ASSOCIATED WITH SEXUAL PSYCHOPATHIC PERSONALITIES AND SEXUALLY 
  1.9   DANGEROUS PERSONS' CIVIL COMMITMENTS.] 
  1.10     The commissioner of corrections may award grants to 
  1.11  reimburse counties for costs associated with civil commitments 
  1.12  under Minnesota Statutes, section 253B.185.  A grant may 
  1.13  reimburse a county for any costs incurred by the county related 
  1.14  to a commitment petition, including, but not limited to, the 
  1.15  cost of a person's treatment and confinement at a state facility 
  1.16  or county jail, both prior to and following commitment.  In 
  1.17  awarding grants under this section, the commissioner shall give 
  1.18  priority to counties that demonstrate that the incurred costs 
  1.19  associated with the civil commitment account for a higher than 
  1.20  average percentage, compared with other counties, of the 
  1.21  county's human services budget. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.23     $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.24  commissioner of corrections for the fiscal year ending June 30, 
  1.25  1999, for the grant program described in section 1.
