A bill for an act
relating to education; providing opportunities for school districts and charter
schools to connect to Internet2 for advanced research and education applications;
appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin INTERNET2 CONNECTIONS FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND
CHARTER SCHOOLS.

new text begin The education commissioner must contract with Internet2 to provide all Minnesota
school districts and charter schools with access to the Internet2 Network in order to
support rich multimedia exchanges and data transfers and improved performance for
various advanced research and education applications.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $30,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of education in
fiscal year 2009 for the cost of contracting with Internet2 to provide school districts and
charter schools with Internet2 connections.
