  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing a local school 
  1.3             district to retain music and art specialists at 
  1.4             certain elementary grades; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             2000, section 126C.12, by adding a subdivision.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 126C.12, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3a.  [ALTERNATIVE REVENUE USE; MUSIC AND ARTS.] A 
  1.10  school district, upon adoption of a written resolution by its 
  1.11  school board, may include in the definition of classroom teacher 
  1.12  under subdivision 2 a public employee licensed by the board of 
  1.13  teaching who is authorized to teach art or music and may include 
  1.14  instructional contact time provided by that teacher for purposes 
  1.15  of calculating class size ratios under this section. 
  1.16     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for revenue for 
  1.17  fiscal year 2003 and later.
