  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; providing additional funding 
  1.3             for in-school suspensions; appropriating money; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 124A. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [124A.32] [IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION REVENUE.] 
  1.8      A school site shall receive $4 per pupil per school day for 
  1.9   each pupil the school site suspends and places in an in-school 
  1.10  suspension program instead of prohibiting the pupil from 
  1.11  attending school.  The school site shall use the revenue for the 
  1.12  increased costs of having a licensed teacher instruct a pupil 
  1.13  placed in an in-school suspension program. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.15     $....... is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.16  year 1999 to the commissioner of children, families, and 
  1.17  learning for in-school suspension costs that school sites incur 
  1.18  under Minnesota Statutes, section 124A.32. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 applies to the 1998-1999 school year and 
  1.21  thereafter.
