  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; establishing an alternative 
  1.3             method of allocation for compensatory revenue; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.5             124A.28, subdivision 1a. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.8   124A.28, subdivision 1a, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [BUILDING ALLOCATION.] (a) For fiscal year 1998 
  1.10  and later, a district must allocate revenue any increase in its 
  1.11  compensatory revenue over the amount of compensatory revenue 
  1.12  that would have been earned in fiscal year 1998 as calculated 
  1.13  under section 124A.22, subdivision 13b, paragraph (c), clause 
  1.14  (1), to each school building in the district where the children 
  1.15  who have generated the revenue are served. 
  1.16     (b) A district may allocate compensatory revenue not 
  1.17  allocated under paragraph (a) to school sites according to a 
  1.18  plan adopted by the school board. 
  1.19     (c) If the pupil is served at a site other than one owned 
  1.20  and operated by the district, the revenue shall be paid to the 
  1.21  district and used for services for pupils who generate the 
  1.22  revenue. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective for revenue for fiscal years 1998 
  1.25  and later.
