  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; no-fault auto; regulating basic 
  1.3             economic loss benefits; requiring arbitration of 
  1.4             terminations and denials; proposing coding for new law 
  1.5             in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 65B. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [65B.565] [BENEFIT TERMINATIONS OR DENIALS; 
  1.8   ARBITRATION.] 
  1.9      No reparation obligor shall terminate basic economic loss 
  1.10  benefits or deny a claim by an insured for basic economic loss 
  1.11  benefits unless this action is taken based on an award obtained 
  1.12  in an arbitration proceeding pursuant to section 65B.525. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION.] 
  1.14     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2000, and applies to basic 
  1.15  economic benefits claims arising from incidents occurring on or 
  1.16  after that date.
