A bill for an act
relating to public safety; requiring reimbursement of counties for housing the
state's short-term offenders; appropriating money; proposing coding for new
law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 241.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [241.2715] REIMBURSEMENT OF COUNTIES FOR SHORT-TERM
OFFENDERS.

new text begin For each inmate sentenced under section 609.105 and serving time in a county or
regional jail, the commissioner of corrections must pay the county housing the inmate no
less than $27.50 per day and reimburse the county for all inpatient and outpatient medical
costs, including the cost of prescriptions, hospitalization, dental care, and mental health
interventions, necessary to care for the inmate.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of corrections to
fund reimbursement grants required under section 1. This amount shall be added to the
Department of Correction's base funding and is in addition to the amount appropriated for
this purpose in Laws 2005, chapter 136, article 1, section 13, subdivision 3.
