  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing a levy for 
  1.3             extracurricular activities; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1996, section 124.912, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 124.912, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 10.  [EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY LEVY.] (a) A school 
  1.10  district may conduct a referendum for extracurricular activity 
  1.11  revenue.  The referendum must be conducted under section 
  1.12  124A.03, subdivision 2.  The ballot question must state an 
  1.13  amount not to exceed $100 per actual pupil unit and identify the 
  1.14  extracurricular activities to be funded.  
  1.15     (b) Each year, a district may levy an amount not to exceed 
  1.16  the amount approved in paragraph (a).  
  1.17     (c) Authority granted under paragraph (a) expires after ten 
  1.18  years.  
  1.19     (d) The levy amount approved under this subdivision shall 
  1.20  be levied against net tax capacity.
