relating to public safety; providing for a grant to the Minnesota federated humane
societies; requiring reports; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin (a) $750,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public safety
for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, for a grant to the Minnesota federated humane
societies established under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 343. The grant must be used to
support animal cruelty investigations, increase capacity, and provide for training and
education. This appropriation shall be added to the department's base budget.

new text begin (b) Each year by January 15, the commissioner of public safety shall report to the chairs
and ranking minority members of the legislative committees having jurisdiction over public
safety policy and finance on the results of the grants made under paragraph (a).
