  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to health; increasing the MinnesotaCare 
  1.3             income limit for certain child care workers; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 256L.04, 
  1.5             by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.8   256L.04, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 7a.  [CHILD CARE WORKERS.] (a) The definition of 
  1.10  eligible persons includes all child care workers who: 
  1.11     (1) are single adults or who reside in households without 
  1.12  children; 
  1.13     (2) have gross family incomes that are equal to or less 
  1.14  than 275 percent of the federal poverty guidelines; and 
  1.15     (3) are employed as child care workers for ten or more 
  1.16  hours per week on average. 
  1.17     (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "child care worker" 
  1.18  means: 
  1.19     (1) a paid staff person who works in a child care center 
  1.20  licensed under Minnesota Rules, chapter 9503; or 
  1.21     (2) a family day care or group family day care provider 
  1.22  licensed under Minnesota Rules, chapter 9502, or a substitute 
  1.23  helper or other adult giving day care services in the provider's 
  1.24  residence; or 
  1.25     (3) a staff person who works in a child care program 
  2.1   meeting the criteria of section 245A.03, subdivision 2, clause 
  2.2   (12); or 
  2.3      (4) an individual providing child care services meeting the 
  2.4   criteria of section 245A.03, subdivision 2, clause (1) or (2), 
  2.5   provided the services are funded in whole or in part through the 
  2.6   child care fund under chapter 119B.
