  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; authorizing school 
  1.3             districts to levy for the operational costs of 
  1.4             swimming pools; amending Minnesota Statutes 2001 
  1.5             Supplement, section 126C.455.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2001 Supplement, section 
  1.8   126C.455, is amended to read: 
  1.9      126C.455 [SWIMMING POOL LEVY.] 
  1.10     Each year, a school district with its home office located 
  1.11  in a county that has (i) a population density of ten or fewer 
  1.12  persons per square mile according to the 2000 census of 
  1.13  population; (ii) an international border; and (iii) more than 
  1.14  one school district within its boundaries, may levy for the net 
  1.15  operational costs of a swimming pool.  The levy may not exceed 
  1.16  the net actual costs of operation of the swimming pool for the 
  1.17  previous year.  Net actual costs are defined as operating costs 
  1.18  less any operating revenues and less any payments from other 
  1.19  local governmental units. 
  1.20     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for taxes 
  1.21  payable in 2003.
