A bill for an act
relating to education; directing collaborative urban educator grant recipients
to offer teacher preparation candidates African American history, culture, and
heritage instruction; amending Laws 2015, First Special Session chapter 3,
article 2, section 70, subdivision 12.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Laws 2015, First Special Session chapter 3, article 2, section 70, subdivision
12, is amended to read:

annually to comply with paragraph (e) and must report by March 1 to the commissioner

new text begin (d) new text end Each institution shall prepare for the legislature, by January 15 of each year, a
detailed report regarding the funds used. The report must include the number of teachers
prepared as well as the diversity for each cohort of teachers produced.

new text begin (e) To be eligible to receive a collaborative urban educator program grant, a grant
recipient must include instruction on African American history, culture, and heritage in
the content and methods courses and student teaching practicum that are part of the grant
recipient's teacher preparation program. A grant recipient must use a program developed
by a recognized teachers' forum to provide the instruction, related coursework, and
professional development required under this paragraph.
