  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; requiring the use of 
  1.3             lifesaving devices on vehicles used on state waters; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 84. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [84.785] [PERSONAL FLOTATION AND LIFESAVING 
  1.8   DEVICES.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [PERSONAL FLOTATION OR LIFESAVING DEVICES.] 
  1.10  The operator and each passenger of a snowmobile, all-terrain 
  1.11  vehicle, car, truck, or iceboat using the waters of this state 
  1.12  must wear a personal flotation or lifesaving device prescribed 
  1.13  by the commissioner.  
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [RENTAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR LIFESAVING DEVICES.] 
  1.15  The owner of a business that rents, leases, or hires out a 
  1.16  snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle, or iceboat for use on the 
  1.17  waters of this state must provide a personal flotation or 
  1.18  lifesaving device of the type required by this section for each 
  1.19  operator and passenger.
