A bill for an act
relating to veterans preference; providing that cost of hearing be paid by the
state, political subdivision, municipality, or public agency; amending Minnesota
Statutes 2012, section 197.481, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 197.481, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin All costs incurred by the veteran resulting from a hearing
conducted under subdivision 4 or an appeal under subdivision 6 shall be paid by the state,
political subdivision, municipality, or other public agency that denied the veteran's rights
granted by the Veterans Preference Act sections listed under subdivision 1. Costs include
reasonable expenses, attorney fees, or other costs incurred by the veteran directly related
to petitioning for relief under this section.
