  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to economic development; providing state 
  1.3             support for endowed chairs in the biosciences; 
  1.4             appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; ENDOWED CHAIRS.] 
  1.7      $5,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.8   year 2005 to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota 
  1.9   for deposit into the endowed chair account under Minnesota 
  1.10  Statutes, section 137.022, subdivision 3, to provide half of the 
  1.11  sum of the endowment for five endowed chairs in the biosciences.
  1.12  Nonstate sources of funds must provide the remainder of the 
  1.13  endowment.  Each chair endowed with funds from the appropriation 
  1.14  under this section must focus on bioscience research.
