  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor carriers; making hours of service 
  1.3             regulations applicable to trucks transporting gravel; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 221.031, 
  1.5             subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 221.031, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [VEHICLE OVER 10,000 POUNDS NOT EXEMPT.] (a) This 
  1.10  subdivision applies to persons engaged in intrastate commerce 
  1.11  who operate vehicles providing transportation described in 
  1.12  section 221.025 with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 10,000 
  1.13  pounds, except school buses, commuter vans, and authorized 
  1.14  emergency vehicles. 
  1.15     (b) Persons providing transportation described in section 
  1.16  221.025, clause (f), (j), (l), or (m), must comply with the 
  1.17  rules for driving of motor vehicles and for parts and 
  1.18  accessories necessary for safe operation. 
  1.19     (c) Persons providing transportation described in section 
  1.20  221.025, except for persons providing transportation described 
  1.21  in clause (f), (j), (l), or (m), must comply with the rules for 
  1.22  driving of motor vehicles; parts and accessories necessary for 
  1.23  safe operation; and, after August 1, 1994, the rules for driver 
  1.24  qualifications. 
  1.25     (d) In addition to the requirements of paragraph (c), 
  2.1   persons providing transportation described in section 221.025, 
  2.2   clause (h), must comply with the rules for maximum driving and 
  2.3   on-duty time while transporting gravel.
