  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; teachers retirement 
  1.3             association and first class city teacher retirement 
  1.4             fund associations; expanding the part-time teaching 
  1.5             positions eligible to participate in the qualified 
  1.6             full-time service credit for part-time teaching 
  1.7             service; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, sections 
  1.8             354.66, subdivision 3; and 354A.094, subdivision 2. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 354.66, 
  1.11  subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 3.  [PART-TIME TEACHING POSITION, DEFINED.] For 
  1.13  purposes of this section, the term "part-time teaching position" 
  1.14  shall mean a teaching position within the district in which the 
  1.15  teacher is employed for at least 50 full days or a fractional 
  1.16  equivalent thereof as prescribed in section 354.091, and for 
  1.17  which the teacher is compensated in an amount not exceeding 67 
  1.18  80 percent of the compensation established by the board for a 
  1.19  full-time teacher with identical education and experience with 
  1.20  the employing unit.  The compensation of a teacher in the state 
  1.21  colleges and university system may exceed the 67 80 percent 
  1.22  limit if the teacher does not teach just one of the three 
  1.23  quarters in the system's full school year, provided no 
  1.24  additional services are performed while the teacher participates 
  1.25  in the program. 
  1.26     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 354A.094, 
  1.27  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  2.1      Subd. 2.  [PART-TIME TEACHING POSITION, DEFINED.] For 
  2.2   purposes of this section, the term "part-time teaching position" 
  2.3   shall mean a teaching position within the district in which the 
  2.4   teacher is employed for at least 50 full days or a fractional 
  2.5   equivalent of 50 full days calculated using the appropriate 
  2.6   minimum number of hours which would result in a full day of 
  2.7   service credit by the appropriate association and for which the 
  2.8   teacher is compensated in an amount not to exceed 67 80 percent 
  2.9   of the compensation rate established by the board for a 
  2.10  full-time teacher with identical education and experience within 
  2.11  the district. 
  2.12     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.13     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 1998.
