A bill for an act
relating to capital investment; appropriating money for capital renovation of historic
building 6 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

MINNEAPOLIS.

new text begin Appropriation. new text end

new text begin $18,025,000 in fiscal year 2024 is appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of administration for design and construction, including
environmental and hazardous materials abatement assessments, for the remodeling and
rehabilitation of historic building 6 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis. The
unspent portion of this appropriation after building design and construction have been
substantially completed, upon written notice to the commissioner of management and budget,
is available for furnishing and equipping accommodations. This is a onetime appropriation
and is available until the project is completed or abandoned, subject to Minnesota Statutes,
section 16A.642, which applies from the date of the original appropriation to the unspent
amount transferred.

new text begin Veterans home expansion. new text end

new text begin The commissioner of veterans affairs may apply
for federal funding and expand the veterans home in Minneapolis with up to 39 beds available
for eligible veterans and their spouses. The state shall provide the necessary operating costs
for the facility in excess of any revenue and federal funding for the facility that may be
required to continue the operation of the facility and care for Minnesota veterans.

new text begin The commissioner of administration may accept
contributions of land or money from private individuals, businesses, local governments,
veterans service organizations, and other nonstate sources for the purpose of providing
matching funding when soliciting federal funding for the development of the home.
