  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to courts; modifying the duties and powers of 
  1.3             a referee for the duration of a family court block 
  1.4             calendar pilot program. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [PILOT PROJECT; COMBINED JURISDICTION COURT.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 260.031, 
  1.8   subdivision 4, and 484.70, subdivisions 6 and 7, paragraphs (d) 
  1.9   and (e), the second judicial district may implement a pilot 
  1.10  project to improve the resolution of family problems by 
  1.11  assigning related family, probate, and juvenile court matters, 
  1.12  other than delinquency proceedings, to a single judge or referee.
  1.13     The second judicial district shall report to the supreme 
  1.14  court by August 1, 1998, on the effectiveness of the combined 
  1.15  jurisdiction court. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is repealed when the project is completed, or 
  1.18  June 30, 1998, whichever occurs earlier. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
