  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; providing for the consistent 
  1.3             governance of various volunteer firefighters relief 
  1.4             associations; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.5             section 424A.04, by adding a subdivision; repealing 
  1.6             Laws 1977, chapter 374, section 41, as amended. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: IN> 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 424A.04, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 3.  [APPLICATION TO CERTAIN RELIEF ASSOCIATIONS.] (a) 
  1.11  Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary of a local or 
  1.12  special law enacted before the enactment of Laws 1979, chapter 
  1.13  201, this section applies to all volunteer firefighters relief 
  1.14  associations. 
  1.15     (b) A volunteer firefighters relief association with a 
  1.16  governing board that is constituted in a manner different than 
  1.17  is provided for in subdivision 1 and that is not provided for in 
  1.18  a special or local law enacted subsequent to Laws 1979, chapter 
  1.19  201, must reconstitute its board of trustees in conformance with 
  1.20  subdivision 1 within 90 days of the effective date of this 
  1.21  section. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.23     Laws 1977, chapter 374, section 41, as amended by Laws 
  1.24  1979, chapter 201, section 37, is repealed. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.26     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.1   enactment.
