  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to gambling; permitting organizations to 
  1.3             conduct contests involving certain card games for 
  1.4             senior citizens; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.5             section 609.761, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 609.761, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [SENIOR CITIZEN TOURNAMENTS.] Sections 609.755 
  1.10  and 609.76 do not prohibit tournaments or contests promoted by a 
  1.11  veterans' organization and conducted on the organization's 
  1.12  premises, provided that: 
  1.13     (1) the tournament or contest is intended primarily for 
  1.14  persons age 55 or over; 
  1.15     (2) the tournament or contest consists of the card games of 
  1.16  chance commonly known as smear or whist, as those terms are 
  1.17  defined by the gambling control board by rule; 
  1.18     (3) the tournament or contest does not provide any 
  1.19  financial benefit to the organization; 
  1.20     (4) the sum of all prizes awarded for each tournament or 
  1.21  contest does not exceed $100; and 
  1.22     (5) the tournaments or contests are conducted by the 
  1.23  organization on 12 or fewer days in a calendar year.
