A bill for an act
relating to elections; modifying certain requirements relating to voting systems
for individuals with disabilities; amending Minnesota Statutes 2005 Supplement,
section 206.57, subdivision 5.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2005 Supplement, section 206.57, subdivision 5, is
amended to read:


Subd. 5.

Voting system for disabled voters.

In federal and state elections held after
December 31, 2005deleted text begin , anddeleted text end new text begin ;new text end in county, deleted text begin municipaldeleted text end new text begin citynew text end , and school district elections held after
December 31, 2007deleted text begin ,deleted text end new text begin ; and in town elections held in November of even-numbered years
after December 31, 2007;

voting system that is accessible for individuals with disabilities, including nonvisual
accessibility for the blind and visually impaired in a manner that provides the same
opportunity for access and participation, including privacy and independence, as for other
voters.new text begin The requirements of this paragraph do not apply to town elections held in March
or in November of odd-numbered years.
