  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to data privacy; providing for data privacy 
  1.3             for certain audit information; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1996, section 13.794, subdivision 1. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 13.794, 
  1.7   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [CONFIDENTIAL DATA OR PROTECTED NONPUBLIC 
  1.9   DATA.] Data, notes, and preliminary drafts of reports created, 
  1.10  collected, and maintained by the internal audit offices of state 
  1.11  agencies and political subdivisions, or persons performing 
  1.12  audits for state agencies and political subdivisions, and 
  1.13  relating to an audit or investigation are confidential data on 
  1.14  individuals or protected nonpublic data until the final report 
  1.15  has been published or the audit or investigation is no longer 
  1.16  being pursued actively. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [REVISOR'S INSTRUCTION.] 
  1.18     In the next edition of Minnesota Statutes, the revisor must 
  1.19  renumber section 13.794 as 13.792 or otherwise include it among 
  1.20  appropriate sections that refer to both state agencies and 
  1.21  political subdivisions in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 13. 
  1.22     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 1998.
