A bill for an act
relating to transportation; highways; requiring the commissioner of transportation
to pay the costs of improvements necessitated by construction on marked Trunk
Highway 44 in Caledonia.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin The commissioner of transportation must pay the costs
associated with infrastructure improvements necessitated by construction on marked
Trunk Highway 44 in the city of Caledonia.

new text begin Improvements included. new text end

new text begin The improvements the commissioner must
pay for under subdivision 1 include, but are not limited to: 16 additional light poles;
repair of curbs and radiuses impacted by construction; replacement or repair of sidewalks;
installation of overhead safety lighting at pedestrian crossings, including warning beacons
notifying drivers of the crossings; and any other improvements necessary to replace
infrastructure damaged by construction or to ensure public safety. All improvements shall
be determined in consultation with the city of Caledonia.

new text begin The commissioner shall perform the duties
required under this section within existing appropriations allocated to the department's
transportation district 6. The requirements under this section do not change the trunk
highway funding allocation process or formula used by the department, or the amount
otherwise allocated to transportation district 6.
