  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to public safety; prescribing permissible 
  1.3             motorboat operation by youth under a certain age; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.305, 
  1.5             subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 86B.305, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [UNDER AGE TEN.] No person under the age of 
  1.10  ten years may operate a motorboat except in the case of an 
  1.11  emergency. 
  1.12     Subd. 1a.  [UNDER AGE 12 14.] Except in case of an 
  1.13  emergency, a person under age 12 14 may not operate or be 
  1.14  allowed to operate a watercraft propelled by a motor with a 
  1.15  factory rating of more than 30 horsepower unless there is 
  1.16  present in the watercraft, in addition to the operator, the 
  1.17  operator's parent or legal guardian or at least one person of 
  1.18  the age 18 or older.
