A bill for an act
relating to arts and cultural heritage; appropriating money for civics education.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; CIVICS EDUCATION.

new text begin $200,000 in fiscal year 2024 and $200,000 in fiscal year 2025 are appropriated from the
arts and cultural heritage fund to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Humanities Center
for grants to the Minnesota Civic Education Coalition: YMCA Center for Youth Voice,
Learning Law and Democracy Foundation, and Youth in Government to conduct civics
education programs for the civic and cultural development of Minnesota youth. Civics
education is the study of constitutional principles and the democratic foundation of our
national, state, and local institutions and the study of political processes and structures of
government, grounded in the understanding of constitutional government under the rule of
law.
