  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; liability; permitting liability 
  1.3             insurance coverage to include coverage for punitive, 
  1.4             exemplary, and similar damages; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1994, section 60A.06, by adding a subdivision.
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 60A.06, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [COVERAGE FOR PUNITIVE AND EXEMPLARY 
  1.10  DAMAGES.] Liability insurance permitted to be sold under 
  1.11  subdivision 1 or 2 may include coverage for punitive, exemplary, 
  1.12  and similar damages.  The coverage authorized by this 
  1.13  subdivision is enforceable in this state. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.15     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
