  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; raising the age of a 
  1.3             child for whom protection from a negligent storage of 
  1.4             firearms applies; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.5             section 609.666, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 609.666, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITIONS.] For purposes of this 
  1.10  section, the following words have the meanings given. 
  1.11     (a) "Firearm" means a device designed to be used as a 
  1.12  weapon, from which is expelled a projectile by the force of any 
  1.13  explosion or force of combustion. 
  1.14     (b) "Child" means a person under the age of 14 18 years. 
  1.15     (c) "Loaded" means the firearm has ammunition in the 
  1.16  chamber or magazine, if the magazine is in the firearm, unless 
  1.17  the firearm is incapable of being fired by a child who is likely 
  1.18  to gain access to the firearm.
