  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to liquor; allowing a professional exemption 
  1.3             from the open bottle law; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.4             1996, section 169.122, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.122, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 6.  [PROFESSIONAL EXEMPTION.] This section does not 
  1.9   apply to possession of alcoholic beverages by a person 
  1.10  designated by a licensed manufacturer or wholesaler of alcoholic 
  1.11  beverages.  The names of designated persons must be provided 
  1.12  prior to transportation of alcoholic beverages to the 
  1.13  commissioner of public safety, who shall issue designated 
  1.14  persons a permit.  The commissioner may charge an appropriate 
  1.15  fee to cover costs of issuing the permit, and may suspend any 
  1.16  permit at the commissioner's discretion.
