  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to state trails; establishing a new trail in 
  1.3             Freeborn and Mower counties; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1994, section 85.015, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision; Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, 
  1.6             section 85.015, subdivision 7. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 
  1.9   85.015, subdivision 7, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 7.  [BLUFFLANDS TRAIL SYSTEM, FILLMORE, OLMSTED, 
  1.11  WINONA, AND HOUSTON COUNTIES.] (a) The Root River trail shall 
  1.12  originate at Chatfield in Fillmore county, and thence extend 
  1.13  easterly in the Root river valley to the intersection of the 
  1.14  river with Minnesota trunk highway No. 26 in Houston county, and 
  1.15  extend to the Mississippi river.  
  1.16     (b) Additional trails shall be established that extend the 
  1.17  Blufflands Trail System to include La Crescent, Hokah, 
  1.18  Caledonia, and Spring Grove in Houston county; Preston, Harmony, 
  1.19  Fountain, Wykoff, Spring Valley, Mabel, Canton, and Ostrander in 
  1.20  Fillmore county; Dover, Eyota, Stewartville, Byron, and Chester 
  1.21  Woods county park in Olmsted county; and Winona, Minnesota City, 
  1.22  Rollingstone, Altura, Lewiston, Utica, St. Charles, and Elba in 
  1.23  Winona county.  In addition to the criteria in section 86A.05, 
  1.24  subdivision 4, these trails must utilize abandoned railroad 
  1.25  rights-of-way where possible. 
  1.26     (c) The trails shall be developed primarily for 
  2.1   nonmotorized riding and hiking. 
  2.2      Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 85.015, is 
  2.3   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  2.4      Subd. 19.  [BLAZING STAR TRAIL, FREEBORN AND MOWER 
  2.5   COUNTIES.] (a) The trail shall originate in the city of Albert 
  2.6   Lea and extend to the city of Austin. 
  2.7      (b) The trail shall be developed primarily for hiking and 
  2.8   nonmotorized riding.
