  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing full funding of adult 
  1.3             basic education; appropriating money; amending Laws 
  1.4             1995, First Special Session chapter 3, article 4, 
  1.5             section 29, subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Laws 1995, First Special Session chapter 3, 
  1.8   article 4, section 29, subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [ADULT BASIC EDUCATION AID.] For adult basic 
  1.10  education aid according to Minnesota Statutes, sections 124.26 
  1.11  in fiscal year 1996 and 124.2601 in fiscal year 1997:  
  1.12       $8,374,000 $21,804,000    .....    1996
  1.13       $8,374,000 $24,173,000    .....    1997 
  1.14     The 1996 appropriation includes $1,256,000 for 1995 and 
  1.15  $7,118,000 $20,548,000 for 1996.  
  1.16     The 1997 appropriation includes $1,256,000 $3,625,000 for 
  1.17  1996 and $7,118,000 $20,548,000 for 1997.  
  1.18     Up to $199,000 $275,000 each year may be used for contracts 
  1.19  with private, nonprofit organizations for approved programs.  
  1.20     Any balance in the first year does not cancel and is 
  1.21  available for the second year. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     This act is effective the day following final enactment.
