  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to peace officers; making licensed part-time 
  1.3             peace officers eligible under the soft body armor 
  1.4             reimbursement program; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             1996, section 299A.38, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 299A.38, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [DEFINITIONS.] As used in this section: 
  1.10     (a) "Commissioner" means the commissioner of public safety. 
  1.11     (b) "Peace officer" means a person who is licensed as a 
  1.12  peace officer under section 626.84, subdivision 1, paragraph 
  1.13  (c), or who is licensed as a part-time peace officer under 
  1.14  section 626.84, subdivision 1, paragraph (f). 
  1.15     (c) "Vest" means bullet-resistant soft body armor that is 
  1.16  flexible, concealable, and custom fitted to the peace officer to 
  1.17  provide ballistic and trauma protection.
