  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to Spring Lake Park; fire department; 
  1.3             providing for the employment of and pension and other 
  1.4             benefits for certain fire-prevention personnel. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [FIRE-PREVENTION PERSONNEL; CITY OF SPRING LAKE 
  1.7   PARK.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the Spring Lake 
  1.9   Park fire department may employ persons as volunteer fire 
  1.10  fighters to perform fire-prevention duties and supervise 
  1.11  fire-prevention activities.  Personnel employed in the position 
  1.12  of fire prevention by the Spring Lake Park fire department are 
  1.13  eligible to receive pension and other benefits under applicable 
  1.14  law on the same basis as personnel employed to perform 
  1.15  fire-suppression duties. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective upon approval by the cities of 
  1.18  Spring Lake Park, Blaine, and Mounds View in accordance with 
  1.19  Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021.
