A bill for an act
relating to elections; modifying how judicial offices are designated on ballots;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 204B.36, by adding a subdivision;
repealing Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 204B.36, subdivision 5.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 204B.36, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:
(a) If a justice or
judge is a candidate for the judicial office the judge or justice was appointed to, the word
"appointee" must be printed after that justice or judge's name on the ballot.
(b) If a justice or judge is a candidate seeking reelection for the judicial office the justice
or judge was elected to, the word "incumbent" must be printed after that justice or judge's
name on the ballot.
Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 204B.36, subdivision 5,
is repealed.
Repealed Minnesota Statutes: 21-03643
If a chief justice, associate justice, or judge is a candidate to succeed again, the word "incumbent" shall be printed after that judge's name as a candidate.
