A bill for an act
relating to the military; providing reimbursement
grants or pay for certain honor guard members;
appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapters 192; 197.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [192.382] HONOR GUARDS.

new text begin Upon the death of any person who has honorably served six
or more years or is in active service in the Minnesota National
Guard, the adjutant general may activate members to serve as an
honor guard at the funeral. Members activated for service as
honor guards must be paid at the rate provided in section
192.49, subdivision 1 or 2.

Sec. 2.

new text begin [197.231] HONOR GUARDS.

new text begin The commissioner of veterans affairs shall pay, within
available funds and upon request by a local unit of a
congressionally chartered veterans organization or its
auxiliary, up to $50 to the local unit for each time that local
unit provides an honor guard detail at the funeral of a deceased
veteran.

Sec. 3. new text begin APPROPRIATION.
new text end

new text begin $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the
adjutant general for purposes of section 1 and $....... is
appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
veterans affairs for the purposes of section 2. These
appropriations are available until June 30, 2007.
