  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; extending a deadline for 
  1.3             certain members of the teachers retirement association.
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 11, 
  1.6   ANOKA-HENNEPIN; TEACHER RETIREMENT COVERAGE PROGRAM DEADLINE 
  1.7   EXTENSION.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, the 
  1.9   teachers retirement association must accept the application for 
  1.10  full-time retirement coverage filed by independent school 
  1.11  district No. 11, Anoka-Hennepin, for a person who: 
  1.12     (1) was a teacher in independent school district No. 11 
  1.13  during the 1995-1996 school year; and 
  1.14     (2) was approved to participate in the part-time teacher 
  1.15  mobility program by independent school district No. 11. 
  1.16     A person who meets the requirements of clauses (1) and (2) 
  1.17  is entitled to full-time teacher retirement association coverage 
  1.18  under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.66, for the period of 
  1.19  participation in the part-time teacher mobility program if all 
  1.20  other conditions of that section are met beyond the failure of 
  1.21  the school district to timely file the application. 
  1.22     (b) The person described in paragraph (a) shall pay the 
  1.23  applicable employee contributions under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.24  section 354.42, subdivision 2, and the applicable employer and 
  2.1   additional employer contributions under Minnesota Statutes, 
  2.2   section 354.42, subdivisions 3 and 5, on the difference between 
  2.3   the amount of the person's compensation from which employee 
  2.4   deductions were actually deducted and the amount of the person's 
  2.5   full-time equivalent salary under Minnesota Statutes, section 
  2.6   354.66, subdivision 4. 
  2.7      (c) Independent school district No. 11, Anoka-Hennepin, 
  2.8   shall pay the employer and additional employer contributions 
  2.9   under Minnesota Statutes, section 354.42, subdivisions 3 and 5, 
  2.10  on the person's salary during the period of part-time 
  2.11  employment, plus interest at the rate of 8.5 percent.  The 
  2.12  school district shall also pay interest at the rate of 8.5 
  2.13  percent on the difference between the employee contributions 
  2.14  actually deducted from compensation and the amount of the 
  2.15  person's full-time equivalent salary under paragraph (b). 
  2.16     (d) The payments under paragraphs (b) and (c) must be made 
  2.17  in a lump sum to the teachers retirement association before June 
  2.18  30, 1997.  If payment is made earlier than June 30, 1997, 
  2.19  interest must be calculated to the end of the month in which 
  2.20  payment is made. 
  2.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.22     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
