  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; authorizing the issuance of 
  1.3             a free turkey license and stamp to certain landowners 
  1.4             and tenants; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             97A.441, subdivision 7. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 97A.441, 
  1.8   subdivision 7, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 7.  [OWNERS OR TENANTS OF AGRICULTURAL LAND.] (a) The 
  1.10  commissioner may issue, without an additional fee, a license to 
  1.11  take additional deer with firearms under section 97B.301, 
  1.12  subdivision 4, to a person who is an owner or tenant and lives 
  1.13  on at least ten acres of agricultural land, as defined in 
  1.14  section 97B.001, in an area where the commissioner has made 
  1.15  these licenses available.  Landowners and tenants applying for a 
  1.16  license under this subdivision must receive preference over 
  1.17  other applicants for the licenses. 
  1.18     (b) Persons who obtain a license under paragraph (a) must 
  1.19  allow public deer hunting on their land during that deer hunting 
  1.20  season. 
  1.21     (c) In Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Jackson, 
  1.22  Martin, Mower, Nobles, or Rock county, the commissioner may 
  1.23  issue, without a fee, a license to take turkey and a turkey 
  1.24  stamp to:  (1) the owner of at least ten acres of agricultural 
  1.25  land or to one family member of the owner; and (2) a tenant of 
  2.1   at least ten acres of agricultural land or to one family member 
  2.2   of the tenant.  A license and stamp issued under this paragraph 
  2.3   is valid only on the agricultural land for which an applicant 
  2.4   qualifies under this paragraph.  For purposes of this paragraph, 
  2.5   "family member" means a spouse or child of an owner or tenant 
  2.6   who resides with the owner or tenant and "agricultural land" has 
  2.7   the meaning given under section 97B.001.
