1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to railroads; requiring trains entering 1.3 Minnesota from a foreign country to be inspected; 1.4 providing a penalty; proposing coding for new law in 1.5 Minnesota Statutes, chapter 219. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. [219.3831] [RAILROADS; INSPECTION.] 1.8 Subdivision 1. [FEE IMPOSED.] The commissioner of 1.9 transportation shall inspect each car of each train entering 1.10 Minnesota directly from a foreign country prior to the train 1.11 being operated in Minnesota. The inspection must include all 1.12 components of each car that the commissioner determines would 1.13 affect the safe operation of the train in Minnesota. 1.14 Subd. 2. [OPERATION PROHIBITED; PENALTY.] A railroad 1.15 subject to inspection under subdivision 1 may not operate a 1.16 train in Minnesota unless (1) the train has first been inspected 1.17 as required under subdivision 1 and (2) the commissioner has 1.18 determined that the train may safely be operated in the state. 1.19 Violation of this section is a misdemeanor.
